Frequently asked questions about flooring

Still have questions? We’ve got answers. Explore our flooring FAQ for useful advice on choosing, installing, cleaning and caring for your floor.

  • What should I consider when choosing a floor?

Your floor is more than just a surface – it’s part of your home’s identity. From plank size and colour to grain and finish, every choice shapes the final look. At Bjelin, we combine Scandinavian design with advanced technology to create floors that are both beautiful and practical.

See the options available for Woodura Planks here and Woodura Herringbone here.

  • What accessories do I need when I purchase flooring?

You may need items such as skirting boards, thresholds and mouldings. See our full range of colour-matched accessories .

  • How should I clean my wood floor?

We recommend vacuuming or dry mopping. You can also use a damp (well-wrung) mop with a neutral cleaner such as Bjelin Washcare diluted in water. Ensure the floor dries within 2–3 minutes.

For Bjelin’s own floor care products, please see here. For more detailed guidance, refer to our installation instructions.

  • How much flooring do I need?

Calculate the area of your floor and add approximately 5–10% to allow for cutting and installation adjustments. It is also advisable to keep spare planks in case you need to replace one in the future due to damage.

For herringbone flooring, allow for a higher material usage. If installing with frieze and border, you should calculate at least 20% extra material.

    Example:
If your room is 5 metres long and 4 metres wide:
    5 × 4 = 20 m²
    Add 10% extra: 20 × 1.10 = 22 m²
You should therefore order 22 m² of flooring.

  • How do I install a click floor?

Click flooring is easy to install and requires no glue or specialised tools. Start by preparing the subfloor, which should be clean, dry and level. Then lay the underlay according to the instructions.

Click the boards together plank by plank, starting with the long side and then connecting the short side. Make sure to leave an expansion gap along walls and fixed objects. Finish with skirting boards and the floor is ready to use immediately.

Always follow the installation instructions, which you can find here.
