Beautiful and easy-to-lay parquet floors

Bjelin’s sawmill is situated in the middle of the world-famous Slavonian forests in Croatia, known for their high quality oak. The high quality oak is suitable for plank widths of up to 20 cm and is available in grades ranging from almost no knots to vibrant, rustic planks.

Along the Croatian coast, there are more than 1,100 small and large islands. Bjelin’s parquet flooring is named after some of these islands.

Oak grades

The natural pattern and colour of the oak varies greatly. Therefore, the planks are sorted into grades so that you can choose exactly the look that suits your interior design.

PLANKS

Select
This grading has a natural colour and fine grain without any major variations in colour. It may contain a small number of small, healthy knots.

Nature
This grading generally has a fine grain with natural variations in colour, graining and texture. It may contain a small number of large, healthy knots, cracks and small dark knots. Sapwood may also occur on one long side of the plank and it may have filled cracks.

Mixed
This grading can have a lively variation in colour, grain and texture. Some discolouration may also occur. Sapwood, prominent medullary rays and bark pockets may occur to a lesser extent. A limited number of large, healthy knots and cracks, dark knots and filled cracks and collections of pin knots may also occur. It may also contain a few knot holes of limited size, as well as a few filled cracks.

Country
This grading has a lively variation in colour and grain. Healthy knots and bark pockets of all sizes may be present, as well as collections of small knots (burring). Sapwood can occur on both long sides of the planks. Medullary rays and filled cracks may occur on most of the planks.

Country+
This grading has a very lively variation in colour and grain. It may contain many healthy knots of all sizes and large, cracked and filled knots, together with collections of small knots (burring). Sapwood can occur on both long sides of the planks. Medullary rays, bark pockets and cracks may be present

3-strip

Nature
This grading has a grain with calm variations in colour and texture. Small, healthy knots may occur.

Country+
This grading has a very lively variation in colour and grain. Many healthy knots of all sizes, as well as larger, cracked and dark knots, may be present, together with collections of small knots (burring). Sapwood can occur on both long sides of the plank. Medullary rays, bark pockets and cracks may be present.

Stable floor with multi-layer parquet

The parquet floor consists of three layers where the wood fibres in the different layers run in a perpendicular direction to each other. The layers lock each other and reduce the natural movement of the wood, providing a stable floor.

The surface layer has a wear surface of 2.5-3.5 mm. The middle layer is strong and durable and is made from fir or spruce. The bottom layer of wood also has a stabilising function.

Modern parquet floors

Traditional solid wood floors do not meet the requirements of a modern home. Wood is hygroscopic, i.e. wood has the ability to absorb moisture from the air and therefore adapts to the humidity in the surrounding air. In other words, each wood fibre swells when the humidity increases and shrinks when the amount of water in the air decreases.

For example, when planks cup, shrink and swell, gaps may form between planks. In addition, it is not economical to use high-grade timber for the parts of the floor that are not visible.

A hydrostatically stable floor can, for example, be achieved by having several layers of wood in the floor where the different layers have different fibre directions or by one of the layers consisting of 

a wood fibreboard. In a wood fibreboard, the wood fibres are randomly scattered, giving the material more homogeneous properties. Due to its hydroscopic properties, a parquet floor also creates equilibrium in air humidity.

The 5G locking system makes it easier than ever to click a floor together. Install it yourself or minimise the project time. Free-floating installation on top of the subfloor without nailing or gluing.

Bjelin’s sister company Välinge Innovation AB developed the world’s first click floor, and Bjelin’s goal is to always offer the best and easiest-to-install click floor on the market.

5G is the most up-to-date technology, allowing floors to be snapped together in a simple operation. Small parquet strips are particularly easy to lay. Larger floor planks with lengths of over 2 metres can be a little more difficult to handle, but the precise click joint makes the work easier and the floor can be installed by just one person. 

General and technical information

Cleaning
If necessary, clean the floor with a damp, well-wrung microfibre mop or scouring cloth. A few drops of mild synthetic detergent may be added to the water.

Areas of use
Bjelin parquet floors are suitable for virtually every room in a home environment. Bjelin parquet floors are not suitable for humid rooms (e.g. bathrooms or saunas).

Installation
The subfloor must be dry, level, load-bearing and clean. Variations in level of more than 3 millimetres per initial metre and 2 millimetres per additional metre must be levelled. The installation instructions supplied with the product must be followed.

Thermal conductivity
Suitable for hydronic underfloor heating. Standard foil underfloor heating systems are generally not recommended. (Exception: self-regulating heating system with floor sensor which maintains a surface temperature of 27°C).

Room environment
The room temperature should be between 18-24 °C and the humidity about 30-60%. This is the optimal climate for both the floor and people. It is a good idea to use a humidifier during the winter when heating the home can lead to a very dry indoor climate.

Our production is based on simple and sensible principles that ensure that our business is sustainable:

  • We maximise the use of all raw materials and every log. Our production system enables us to calculate the perfect way to divide the log in order to create different sizes and shapes. The wood that cannot be used in the product’s surface layer is used as filler material or energy. Nothing goes to waste.

  • All waste in production can be recycled and turned into filler material in new floors. This minimises waste while maximising the amount of flooring per cubic metre of raw material.

  • We source our raw material from responsibly managed forests where the wood is processed locally. This results in shorter transport journeys while also providing local jobs.
