For Elin and Gustav, designing their family’s summer house in Torekov, southern Sweden, was a balancing act between their two visions. To bring their ideas to life, they chose 250 sqm of our Woodura Planks VIARP 3.0 XXL in Powder White.

“Our shared interior style is a mix of simplicity and warmth,” Elin explains. “Not too many small objects, but cosy with textiles and warmth. We prefer solid colours in calm, earthy tones rather than busy patterns.”

While Gustav envisioned a home that could function as a permanent residence with a grander feel, Elin leaned toward a light, laid-back summer house vibe. “Surprisingly, combining both our ideas created a consistent thread throughout the house,” Elin reflects.

Inspired by the sea

The home’s location – just steps from the beach and harbour – shaped both the architecture and the interiors.

“The location was absolutely crucial when we chose the plot,” Gustav says. “I worked a lot with views and sightlines, not just within the walls of the house, but especially outward toward the sea and the island, Hallands Väderö.” This coastal connection is also reflected in the design choices.

The interiors should breathe a sense of the sea and summer.

“Even if we’re here on a winter weekend, the space should remind us that summer will come again,” says Elin. The pale wooden floors were also chosen with practicality in mind. “They’re forgiving when family members drag in sand after a day at the beach,” Gustav says.

Choosing the right floor

As a young family, durability was just as important as aesthetics. “The floor needed to be tough yet beautiful,” Elin explains. “It has to handle the wear and tear of a family with small children, but still feel genuine and elegant.”

The floor needed to be tough yet beautiful.

The couple opted for light shades that set the tone for the entire home. “Everything is in calm, light colours. It wasn’t difficult to find tones that harmonised with the floor,” says Elin. When asked what inspired their choice, the answer is simple: “A light summer feeling.”

Living with the floors

Now that the house is complete, the flooring has proven to be both practical and beautiful.

“The floors feel forgiving against sand, which is always a challenge in a summer house,” Elin says. “At the same time, they’re very practical and easy to clean.”

For this Torekov family, the result is a home that captures the essence of summer all year round – a space where durability and design can meet.
