“We knew we wanted a light floor to keep the entire house bright, both the walls and the floors,” Melina explains. “When we received help at the showroom and saw many different shades and structures, I immediately spotted VEJBY and thought, ‘that's the one’. I always go with my gut feeling when decorating, and VEJBY was the perfect match for our Japandi-inspired home.”
While three young children might lead some to prioritise practicality over style, Melina assures us that wasn’t a factor in their decision. ”No,” she says, laughing. “I actually never think about the children when choosing materials. The flooring was selected early in the renovation process. “It was one of the first things we chose, along with the kitchen. We knew we wanted the same shade for both the floor and the kitchen so that they would flow seamlessly together.”
The choice of wood flooring, particularly wide planks, was a natural one. “I’ve followed Bjelin on Instagram for a long time and thought, ‘When we move into a house, I want those.’ And now it happened. We didn’t really know much about hardened wood floors, but I knew Bjelin had some of the longest, widest planks, and that was the main thing for me.”
For Melina, the primary consideration when choosing the flooring was aesthetics. “It was down to looks, plain and simple,” she says, but adds: “the appearance and the durability were the most important factors.” Melina also raves about the brushed surface of the VEJBY flooring. “I LOVE it! One standout feature of the renovation was the installation of flooring on the staircase. “It turned out so beautifully”, Melina says. “The stairs almost look like they’re floating – so modern, so minimalist and just so gorgeous.”
When advising others who are about to select flooring, Melina suggests keeping the overall style of the house in mind. “Pick a floor that suits your home’s style. If you live in a period property, I wouldn’t choose a modern floor. Also, think long-term. The floor will be there for years, so don’t just follow trends – choose something that will last.”
For Melina and her family, their VEJBY floor is more than just a functional surface. “If I had to sum up the new floor in one feeling, it would be harmony, 100%. There’s something about this wood floor – it’s so soft and pleasant to walk on. It’s also beautiful to look at, and it creates a sense of calm. I can’t explain exactly what it is, but it’s just soothing.”
