The old bank building by Stortorget in Helsingborg was built in 1903–1904 and was designed by the architect Alfred Hellerström. The attractive building was built on three floors in a Roman Renaissance Revival style, with façades of characteristic red Öved sandstone.
After many years of valuable service, some of the floors in the communal areas had become worn to the degree that the floor needed replacing. Bjelin was entrusted with the task of installing a classical herringbone parquet, and to safeguard the age and style of the building, it was decided that the herringbone pattern should be framed within border and feature strips.
The entire floor was a floating installation, which was made possible by Bjelin’s very own locking edges for small parquet strips. A combination of an extremely advanced and stable flooring product in its structure, yet with the classical appearance of a bygone age, means that the floor will hopefully not need to be replaced for many years. But if it does become necessary one day in the future, it can be done easily, by unclicking the strips once more!
